15-летие альбома группы Kula Shaker
Психоделик-рокеры Kula Shaker отпраздновали 15-летие выхода своего дебютного альбома «K», ставшего в свое время знаковым событием в истории британского шоу-бизнеса, переизданием ремастированной версии диска, дополненной различными бонусами. Выпущенный 16 сентября бокс-сет включил в себя два CD и DVD. На аудио-дисках, помимо оригинальной программы альбома, представлены не издававшиеся ранее треки и редкие бисайды, а также запись выступления команды в Бате в 1996-м году. Видео-интервью с участниками группы даст поклонникам возможность узнать о том, как создавался «К», ознакомиться с видеоклипами и архивными фото. Музыкант Криспиан Миллс (Crispian Mills), ставший писателем и режиссёром (бывает и такое), начал основные съёмки своего дебютного полнометражного художественного фильма «Фантастический страх всего» («A Fantastic Fear Of Everything»).
В главной роли этой психологической комедии о писателе, чья жизнь пошла кувырком после того, как на его роман обратил внимание голливудский продюсер, играет Саймон Пегг (Simon Pegg). В фильме также снимаются Амара Каран (Amara Karan), Клэр Хиггинс (Clare Higgins) и Шеридан Смит (Sheridan Smith).
Саймон Пегг сыграет главную роль в фильме A Fantastic Fear Of Everything. Он сыграет автора детских рассказов, переквалифицировавшегося в писателя криминальных романов.
Его персонаж исследует жизни Викторианских серийных убийц, которые приводят его в параноидальный ужас. Состояние становится еще хуже после того, как Голливуд решает снять фильм, основанный на его собственных выводах.

Pinewood announces funding assistance and access to world class facilities for first small British film production
The Pinewood Studios Group, a leading provider of services to the global film and television industry, today announces that it will be providing facilities and co-investment to support a new British film, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. It is the first film to receive support from ‘Pinewood Films’ – an initiative launched earlier this year following an announcement that the Company is making a return to investing in film production, supporting independent, British films.
The psycho-comedy is written and directed by musician-turned-filmmaker Crispian Mills, marking his feature debut. He is joined by co-director and animator Chris Hopewell as part of a collaboration with Collision Films, whose award-winning work includes Radiohead’s There There and The Killers’ Smile Like You Mean It. A message from Harry
Hello folks. Its been a little while since my last update and I hope all is well. Aside from battling through the wind and rain that this summer has kindly provided, I’ve been working on a solo album. A couple of years ago a good friend of mine left the country to pursue his career in the New World. Amongst the other detritus he decided to leave me with was his strat. I didn’t know how to play it of course, but ironically not being able to play seems to be a great facilitator for song writing. I started recording the album for real around Christmas time. The original plan was to get my friends to play on it, but by the time I’d put the demo guitars down, and started on drums and keys it wasn’t a big leap to push myself a bit and do everything else. I’ve always been a bit of a multi-instrumentalist (or jack-of-all-trades) and it was good to explore some of the sounds and instruments at my disposal. Playing everything yourself does however, take quite a looooong time. Completion is creeping up on me like a sunny day and I shall play you some sounds soon. In other news I’ve been listening to Tumbleweed, recording a bit of hammond for Goldray, hanging out with Crispian on his film set and playing drums in a new project called Swallowing The Seas. I hate describing music with words so I won’t, but watch this space. There’ll be an EP soon.

A message from Alonza…
As you might have heard I’ve been working on a new project called “Tumbleweed” with Audrey Evans (singer in “The Mediaeval Baebes” and female voice on “Pilgrim’s Progress”). Now things out here in the forest’s of southern Belgium move a little slower than in the rest of the world so we wanted to give you something to listen to during the inevitable wait for an album.
A couple of months ago Belgian radio station Classic 21 asked us to record a Bob Marley cover for a program they were putting together marking the 30th anniversary of his death. We trawled through his back catalogue and found ourselves drawn to the earlier pre reggae ska and Jamaican soul tracks of the “Wailing Wailers”. We chose “Sinnerman” as we liked the African American spiritual vibe plus we knew the Les Baxter version which is also pretty cool.
We put the track together here in Lompret with the help of Christian Gerard who played cello on “Pilgrims Progress” and Belgian drummer Marc Descamp. The 2nd track is called Motherless Child which is a song Audrey wanted to cover for the album. It’s another spiritual which has a message in keeping with that of Bob.
The video clip is just something we cut together from an old 30’s cartoon called “Bimbo’s Initiation”, it’s just a bit of fun but we wanted a way for people to hear the track.
Anyway the album is turning out to be a whole different thing but until then I hope you enjoy this.

Simon Pegg about Crispian’s film
Simon Pegg: … The next film I’m doing is kind of a semicomedy, but it’s much more of an acting job than just telling gags. It’s called A Fantastic Fear of Everything. It’s about a writer who is paranoid, basically he’s going insane. He’s writing plays about murderers but he’s becoming obsessed with murder and murdering. And he gets a meeting with an agent, but in order to go, he has to visit the Laundromat because his clothes are dirty and he’s frightened of Laundromats. So it’s this really odd but brilliant script. It’s directed by Crispian Mills who is the grandson of John Mills and the son of Hayley Mills, so he’s from a great acting dynasty. It’s just a little low-budget British film but I’m very excited about it.
Slate: Are you playing the writer?
Simon Pegg: I am.
Slate: Why is he afraid of Laundromats?
Simon Pegg: It’s all about his childhood, and abandonment, and you learn that he had a traumatic experience at the Laundromat when he was very young. I’ve just been rehearsing it and start shooting when I get back.

Maxwell Caulfield Hoping For A Role In Rocker Nephew’s First Film
Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills is working on his directorial debut – and uncle Maxwell Caulfield is hoping the project will boost his stalled movie dreams.
The Hush hitmaker, whose late father was revered British filmmaker Roy Boulting, is adapting a short story by Withnail & I writer Bruce Robinson.
And Grease 2 star Caulfield hopes there will be a role for him in his nephew’s first film.
The actor tells BlogTalkRadio.com, “Crispian is following in his dad’s footsteps directing his first film and we’re all very excited about that.
“I haven’t gotten my hands on a script yet, so I don’t know how much I have to kiss up to Crispian between now and the early summer, when this picture rolls.”

In the nineties, during the era of the grunge, the brit-pop and growingly faceless songs at the music channels, it is almost unimaginable for a psychedelic rock band, deeply inspired of India, to conquer the charts. The music of Kula Shaker bears at the same time the fiery energy of the youth and the wisdom of the musical culture of past epochs; contemporary, yet reflecting the spirit of the music of the 60’s; wonderfully combining the vivid picturesque pageant of the soundtracks of “Hair” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” with the psychedelia of the later Beatles. RR: First of all – congratulatio
ns for “Pilgrims Progress” , though it’s been half an year since it came out! It is among the most beautiful albums ever released. Can you tell us shortly about the album, the label issue in 2008, the songs and the recording sessions?
AB: Well, the album grew out of circumstance we had just got out of some dodgy dealings with the dark side (moneymen, accountants and lawyers) which left the band in a rather poor financial position. We knew we had some good songs and so with some great help from our friends and local musicians we started recording Pilgrims Progress here in the countryside of southern Belgium.
RR: The first thing that is obvious while listening the CD is the fact that you have taken off the colorful garment that was so typical for your previous releases and “Pilgrims Progress” is a stripped down to naked melodies and pure emotions record. Was that transmission natural or you made it by purpose? (more…)
